Construction and Demolition (C & D) Debris Policy

C & D debris drop-off is only available to Portsmouth residents with a valid Transfer Station sticker.

Residents may bring C & D debris in 32-gallon barrels or one car trunk load for free disposal in the C & D bin at the Transfer Station, once per day. Pick-up truck drivers may drop off one load of C & D debris for $75, once per day. Trailers with C & D debris are NOT allowed. Vans and SUVs with more than one 32-gallon barrel of C & D debris will pay the pickup truck fee.

Pick-up Truck Pass

To dispose of a pickup truck load, residents must purchase a pass at the Tax Collector's office in Portsmouth Town Hall, 2200 East Main Road between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Give your pass to Transfer Station Security Guard when you arrive with your C & D debris.

Debris Facts & Tips

  • C & D debris may NOT be dumped in the compactor pits.
  • Loads may NOT contain any hazardous materials including :
    • Asbestos
    • Box springs or mattresses
    • Propane tanks
    • Tires
    • Other hazardous or recyclable materials
  • Non-C & D debris must be separated from the C & D and placed in the appropriate bin or pit.
