Poll Workers
BE A POLL VOLUNTEER!
The Portsmouth Canvassing Office is hiring Poll Workers to help during the June 2, 2020 election.

Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old (16 year olds can be hired to work as greeters with parental approval)
- Registered Rhode Island voter
- Able to write name & read RI State Constitution in English
- Complete Poll Worker Application
- Attend online trainings & complete brief quiz
Paid Positions Available - Meals Provided
Greeters (Half-day shifts available)
- Welcome voters
- Shows where sample ballots are posted
- Directs voters to correct line
- Reminds voters of ID requirements
Supervisors (Half-day shift available)
- Work in bi-partisan pairs to oversee ballot applications
- Verifies voter ID
- Directs voters to Clerk as needed
- Distributes ballots & voter instructions
Clerks
- Responsible for election materials and reports
- Assists voters who are not listed on voting lists cast their ballot
- Helps voters update information
Moderators
- Manage the precinct and reporting results
- Oversees poll workers
- Helps voters cast ballots
- Reports all technical issues
- Serves as point-of-contact to local Board of Canvassers
New Positions added by State Board of Elections for June 2:
- Booth monitor - responsible for monitoring condition/cleanliness of poll booths
- Exterior line control monitor - to greet voters/remind of social distancing
- Interior line control monitor - monitor social distancing
- Door monitor - maintain crowd control
Compensation
- Meals included for all positions.
- Supervisors and Monitors - $100 per shift
- Two shifts available. One person can work both shifts.
AM Shift: 6AM to 2PM PM Shift: 1PM to 9PM
- Two shifts available. One person can work both shifts.
- Moderators and Clerks - $250 full day
- One shift available. Must be able to work the full shift. (6AM to 9PM)
