MEDS Training 2019-20 (SUSPENDED)

MEDS TRAINING HAS BEEN SUSPENDED DUE TO THE COVID-19 SITUATION

2019-2020 Medical Emergency Distribution (MEDS) Training

In an event where the RI Department of Health (
RI DOH) determines that there is imminent threat of some type of heath event (such as an Anthrax attack or some resistant strain of the flu), they may declare a Medical Emergency and alert the Town to set up a Point of Dispensing (POD) for distribution of some type of medication to all the town citizens.

The staffing of the POD would require the assistance of both town staff and citizens volunteers.

Although staffing volunteers would be provided “Just-In-Time” training as part of the POD preparation, it is valuable to have as many people as possible with some level of training before an event occurs.  The RI DOH has developed a program, this year, to provide basic and advanced  training to potential staff and volunteers.

The RI DOH provides the Town funding to support the MEDS Program by completing certain deliverables each year.

As part of Portsmouth’s required 2019-2020 deliverables that will release funding to Portsmouth for our Medical Emergency Distribution System (MEDS), we will be required to attend 20 training sessions before May 2020.

Basic Training is for those staff members who have not had any basic or equivalent training in MEDS before.

Advanced Training is for those who have satisfied Basic Training requirements

WE NEED THE HELP OF TOWN STAFF  TO COMPLETE BASIC AND ADVANCED TRAINING.

PLEASE SIGN UP FOR TRAINING SO WE CAN MEET OUR TOWN MINIMUM TRAINING GOALS.
