Harbor Master

The Harbor Master for the Department is Ptlm. Scott Travers who took over the position in 1999. The Harbor Master goes on patrol with a patrol officer patrolling the waters that surround the town. Portsmouth has the most miles of shoreline in the state. The Harbor Master and officers issue citations to boaters who commit violations such as causing a wake in the populated areas of the harbor and river and having no safety equipment onboard.

The department purchased a new police boat in the spring of 2000 which is equipped with emergency lights and equipment and capable of transporting prisoners back to mainland. Part of the Harbor Master duties also include patrolling Prudence and Hog Island, which are part of Portsmouth.

The Harbor Master also handles the assignment of moorings throughout the town and Prudence Island. Mooring applications can be picked up at the police station or downloaded here (pdf format)  Mooring Application.
