Fire Department Residential Plans Review Checklist
Fire Department Commercial Plans Review Checklist
When the Fire Department first receives a set of plans they ensure that everything that is needed to conduct the review has been included with the plans. That includes the construction details, door schedules, stair details, finish details, and cut sheets for fire alarm and sprinkler equipment (if needed).
After determining the occupancy of the building, the Fire Department then ensures that all aspects of the building are in compliance with the state fire codes and local ordinances. This includes the number, size and construction of all exits, stairs, and corridors, the location of exit signs, emergency lighting, fire alarm equipment and sprinkler equipment.
After it is determined what components of the buildings need to be fire rated, we then check to ensure that the walls, doors and door hardware are correct.
After the entire set of plans and specifications are reviewed, the Fire Department writes a detailed report that gives the full description of the building, the deficiencies found, and quote the sections of the code or ordinance that pertains to each deficiency.
During construction the Fire Department conducts a number of inspections to ensure that the plans are being followed and that the fire protection systems are being installed properly. At the end of construction they do acceptance tests on all of the fire protection systems installed in the building to ensure that they work properly.
