You Fit a Modern Septic System? – Sketch Pad
Note: The following
sketch layouts are “typical” only.
Every situation is
different. There is no guarantee that these layouts would work or
would be permitted by RIDEM. They are provided to give you an idea if
a modern septic system would fit on your lot.

WHY PORTSMOUTH MUST TAKE ACTION – THE TMDL REPORT
Areas Contributing to the
Pollution Problem via Storm Drains
(Pollution from some failing
septic systems flows into the Town’s storm drain system and into the
Sakonnet River and Blue Bill Cove at various outfalls. Because the
Town owns the storm drain system, the Town will be required to solve
this pollution problem. These maps show areas that drain into the
problem outfalls. The blue dots are storm drain outfalls. The amount
of pollution from the Portsmouth Park area is far greater than from
the Island Park area.)

RECOMMENDATIONS OF OUR CONSULTANT
This is a series of maps that summarize a study of the entire town
(Aquidneck Island portion) of soils, over 800 historical perc and
water table tests, and lot sizes. Using that combination, the study
projected the areas that should be fine with septic systems in the
long run and areas (in green and red) that should have some type of
sewer system soon.
