Shredded Paper no Longer Accepted as Recycling at Transfer Station

Effective immediately, Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (RIRRC)  in Johnston will no longer accept shredded paper in mixed recycling.  Place your shredded paper into the WASTE bin at the Transfer Station. Please continue to bag all shredded paper, but it need not be contained in clear plastic bags nor does it need to be double bagged.  Bags must be tied closed.  Composting shreds is a quick and easy way to dispose of your shredded paper as well.  Any questions can be directed to:

Raymond Antaya

Portsmouth Recycling Coordinator

 (401) 643-0369

Read RIRRC’s press release on why they will no longer accept shredded paper in recycling, and where and when they will have shredded paper recycling days in the Additional Info.
