Hazardous Waste
Household hazardous waste can NOT be brought to the Transfer Station. Hazardous Materials are:
  • Corrosive /Caustic - Deteriorates metal and causes irreversible alteration of living tissue by chemical action
  • Flammable /Combustible - Ignites under most conditions
  • Reactive - Creates an explosion or produces deadly vapors
  • Toxic - Poisonous or lethal when ingested, absorbed, touched, or inhaled
Typical Household Hazardous Waste
Hazardous materials often bear labels like, "Danger," "Warning," "Caution," or "Poison." Common household hazardous wastes include:
  • Oil-based paints, stains and finishes
  • Rechargeable batteries
  • Automotive fluids
  • Lawn and garden fertilizers
  • Pool chemicals
  • Fluorescent light bulbs
  • Thermometers and thermostats containing mercury
